Over thirty years have passed since the last Polish play anthology was published in Hungarian and the last Hungarian play anthology in Polish. This year, two anthologies have come out to end this hyatus. Reading them prompts us to ask: Has that common language building partly on covert references to current political events, become a thing of the past? What happened to the reputable authors? Have their young successors managed to create a new common language? How does their contemporary drama relate to contemporary theater? A symposium organized by the Budapest Autumn Festival seeks answers to these questions, bringing together renowned theater directors, critics and experts, as well as authors, translators and the representatives of publishing houses.
