A TASTE OF BSF 2009
During these two days we give a taste of the programmes of this year’s Budapest Spring Festival. In conjunction with the Haydn anniversary you can hear part of the Jánosi Ensemble’s concert and see a period fire show. Tomáš Kočko and his orchestra, and the Maraca Ensemble are from the Czech Republic, the festival’s guest of honour this year. On the first weekend artists from the Japanese Day to be held in the Thália Theatre are also giving special concerts and performances. Participants in the Fringe+ festival to be held on the last weekend will also be our guests.

BEFORE THE DANCE HOUSE GATHERING
Once again the 28th National Dance House Gathering and Crafts Fair will be held on the last weekend of the festival. As a foretaste, this weekend amateur and professional participants at the event will give visitors an introduction to the world of folk music and folk dance.
11.00 am Opening: Dances from the Upper Tisza region: Tyukod, Nagyecsed, Gagybátor
11.30 am Dance teaching and humorous games
12.00 am The 20-year-old Hungarian Hurdy-Gurdy Ensemble plays traditional music and historical melodies from the Great Plain
12.30 pm Dances from Gyimes and Székelyföld: Gyimesközéplok, Csík, Vajdaszentivány
1.00 pm Dance teaching

With participation of the Ajka-Padragkút Dance Ensemble led by Anett Nagypál and Ignác Kádár, the Zagyva Orchestra and the Hungarian Hurdy-Gurdy Ensemble
Host: Csaba Szabó Throughout the festival craft demonstrations, a traditional market, delicious folk gastronomy and in the afternoons a folk music concert and dance teaching await visitors to Vörösmarty Square.

THE FRINGE+ FESTIVAL IS OUR GUEST
A little taste in the Inner City of the FRINGE+ Festival taking place in the Millenáris Park with a selection of last year’s productions in a wide range of genres: theatre, jazz, world music, light music, dance, cabaret, fire juggling show.
11.30 am-12.30 pm Pikéthy Strings – Performance by the string department of the Pikéthy Music School of Vác.
12.30-1.30 pm Katáng: Variegated songs – Hungarian poems for children set to music, for everyone.
2.00-3.00 pm Renáta Csőke and Dutar – World music concert. Own compositions, popular and less known folksongs, folk music in our style.
3.30-4.30 pm Drums Percussion Group – Percussion instruments as children see them, from folk music to modern music, different genres, various composers.
5.30-6.00 pm Fabula Rasa – World music combining Gypsy, Hungarian Celtic and Jewish music traditions.
6.30-7.30 pm Karaván Family: La familijaki zor (The strength of the family) – Gypsy folksongs with a dash of flamenco, Gypsy swing, blues, Latin and Balkan elements.
8.00-9.00 pm ’round nine: Woodfish – Dance and pop music with elements of funky, Latin rhythms, jazz and jazz-rock.
9.00-9.30 pm Lángvirág Fire Theatre: Games – Fire Theatre production after sunset.

12.30-1.30 pm Eszter Béres Trio: Light soul nest – Unique sound, interplay of clean and “dirty blues” from the world of jazz, swing, ballads and Latin music.
2.00-3.00 pm Fakutya: Jaj, Folk Police! – Moldavian (csángó) Hungarian folk music in contemporary style.
3.30-4.30 pm Operissimi Company: Opera for Everyone!
5.00-6.00 pm Júlia Karosi Quartet: Chansons, evergreens – The group performs jazz standards and old Hungarian chansons.
